Construction
The construction of Delco’s aluminum window profiles for the operating sashes are constructed using aluminum corners completely adjustable for a perfect exterior finish. The aluminum profile for the frame is fastened using aluminum corner keys and crimping technology.
Frame
The frame depth is 114mm (4 1/2") or 152mm (6"). The standard sash depth is 73mm (2 7/8") with a height of 44mm (1 3/4'') and designed for 32mm (1 1/4'') glazed units. Mullions are 116mm (4 9/16") deep.
Sealing
Continuous flexible weatherstrip and glazing beads, including the corners, on the glazed unit perimeter, ensure optimal insulation. A structural sealant joint is inserted on the window periphery on the interior part of the operating sash.
Thermal Performance
Delco’s new engineered window frame material, provides higher deflection of heat and cold, creating an insulating barrier between your hom and the outside . . . leading to much higher energy savings.

Do aluminum windows with thermal breaks actually make a difference?

Yes, and it’s significant. Aluminum is a very good thermal conductor. But when manufacturers include a thermal break, an insulating barrier (often polyamide) between the inner and outer aluminum, thermal transmission is dramatically reduced. U‑value can drop from ~6.8 W/m²·K for a non‑broken frame to ~1.3 W/m²·K or better with a thermal break.

Delco’s sliding aluminum frames routinely incorporate thermal breaks to improve energy efficiency.

Is condensation on aluminum window frames normal in cold weather?

Yes, especially w/o thermal breaks. If frames are highly conductive, their interior surfaces can fall below dew point in cold weather, causing condensation. High condensation risk is one of the main reasons thermal breaks are used in aluminum window systems.

How long do aluminum windows last in Canada?

We estimate that aluminum doors and windows typically last 30 years or more with minimal maintenance, especially in harsh climates like those around Toronto. That lifespan is backed by aluminum’s natural durability and corrosion resistance.

What kind of maintenance do aluminum windows require?

Relatively low, but not zero. Key tasks include:

Cleaning surfaces occasionally to remove dirt and prevent corrosion
Inspecting and replacing weatherstripping/weather seals over time (exposure to sun and temperature changes can make them brittle)
Checking hardware (locks, hinges) for wear and ensuring functionality
Monitoring seal integrity of insulated glass units (for fogging or seal failure)

Do aluminum windows warp in extreme temperatures (hot or cold)?

Generally no. Aluminum resists warping, cracking, or swelling unlike wood or vinyl. Our Slimline Aluminum windows maintain shape even under extreme heat and cold. This makes them stable over time in climates with large seasonal swings, like in Toronto.

Are aluminum windows worth the investment, considering potential energy savings?

They can be; if well designed.

However, in direct comparison to vinyl or fiberglass (which naturally insulate better), aluminum requires thermal breaks to be competitive.

Thermal breaks and high-performance glass (double/triple‑pane, Low‑E, argon fill) can yield low U‑factors (e.g. ~0.30 or better), which significantly lowers heating and cooling loads.

Do aluminum windows have wide frames that reduce glass area?

Not necessarily. Aluminum’s strength allows for slimline frames, maximizing glass area and natural light.
